READ BEFORE FLASHING. Put a REAL high-quality battery charger on the truck at 12V / 15A and keep voltage above 12.5V for the entire flash — never use a jump box. If voltage drops below 12.5V, ECM damage can occur; do not flash under 12.5V. Use fresh batteries (under ~12 months old). Have strong cell service, a phone battery above 75%, and all background apps closed. Do not touch your phone during the flash.
Steps
-
1
Use fresh batteries
Make sure your batteries are newer — under about 12 months old. Since 2020, the average battery only holds proper tuning voltage for around a year, so older batteries may not sustain the voltage a flash needs.
-
2
Unplug aftermarket accessories
Unplug any aftermarket accessories and pull their fuses before you begin.
-
3
Put a battery charger on the truck
Connect a real, high-quality battery charger set to 12V and 15A to keep voltage above 12.5V while flashing. Do not use a jump box. If volts drop below 12.5V, ECM damage can occur — do not flash if under 12.5V.
-
4
Tune before removing any parts
Always tune the truck before removing parts — don't remove anything until tuning is complete. Be gentle with every hardware and cable connection: don't force anything, make sure each plug is fully seated, and double-check everything before programming.
-
5
Prep your phone
Charge your phone above 75%, confirm strong cell data, and close all background apps (restarting the phone helps). Leave the phone alone during the flash so it has uninterrupted data.
-
6
Download & install the AutoAgent app
The AutoAgent app runs on most smart devices (iOS 8+ or Android 5+). Download it from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
-
7
Create an account
In the AutoAgent app, choose 'Create an account' and verify your email. If you're a shop or mechanic doing this for a customer, create the account for the end-user (or use the account they already have).
-
8
Key to the 'Run' position
Turn the key all the way over without starting the engine to boot the engine computer so the AutoAgent can communicate with it. On push-to-start vehicles, press Start twice.
-
9
Plug the AutoAgent into the OBD-II port
With the key in 'Run', plug the AutoAgent into the OBD-II port. A blue light on the device means it booted correctly.
-
10
Connect your phone to the AutoAgent
In your phone's Wi-Fi settings, select the 'EZ LYNK_####' network. A check mark appears when connected. The Auto Agent 3 can also connect via Bluetooth.
-
11
Open the AutoAgent app
Once connected, return to the AutoAgent app — you should now see your vehicle gauges.
-
12
Lynk your vehicle
Vehicles purchased from Empire Diesels (or an authorized dealer) are AutoLynked. Do NOT type in a tech email manually — wait for the tech email to pop up, then select it. If your phone has cell data, a prompt to lynk the vehicle appears; follow it. No cell data? Connect to Wi-Fi and reopen the app to finish lynking.
-
13
Program (flash) your vehicle
Go to Vehicle > ECU Profiles to see the tunes available to you. Tap to download your desired ECU profile, then tap 'Install' to flash — the app guides you through it. On a device without cell data, switch to Wi-Fi to download the profile, then back to the EZ LYNK network to install it.
